Rappler has officially launched Project Agos.
Project Agos is a collaborative platform that combines top-down government action with bottom-up civic engagement to help communities learn about climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction. The project harnesses technology and social media to ensure critical information flows to those who need it before, during, and after a disaster.
Its an online tool where we can find the latest relevant information on disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation and mitigation and :
- Learn how to prepare yourself and your community for disasters and how to mitigate the impact of climate change
- Learn how to better respond to a disaster and know about the people who put their lives on the line to save others
- Learn how to recover from a disaster and read the inspiring stories of those who did and dared, despite the challenges
It also provides a Disaster Map (http://agos.rappler.com) where users can collaborate with each other to provide and receive information.
Project Agos Map
This will be very useful here in Marikina where we always have floods during heavy rains and where the Marikina River swells during typhoons and habagat.
Marikenyos can report the situation in their areas, if they or they know someone who needs help, they can assist them by flagging it on the map and also updating the reports later.
