The Marikina City council has passed Ordinance 31, series of 2014 to “to guarantee a more conducive sleeping atmosphere” for all Marikenyos.

According to an article from the Manila Standard Today, operating hours of eateries, bars and clubs, billiard halls, restaurants, and similar establishments would be allowed only until 3 a.m. The ordinance also bans serving liquors starting 1 a.m.

This is to help create a “peaceful (and) liveable environment for the Marikeños” by reducing “adverse effects of intoxicated individuals such as road mishaps, sleeping on sidewalks, and vomiting in public”.

Fines: P3,000 for the first offense; and P5,000 for the second offense along with suspension of business permit.

However, there are exemptions during special occasions such as Christmas, Valentine’s Day, and anniversaries. Exemption permit can be obtained from your respective Barangays.

I’ll post the full contents of the Ordinance as soon as I get a copy.
