Two Water Level Monitoring equipment are installed here in Marikina for flood monitoring and forecasting.
The equipment are installed at Tumana Bridge and Sto. Niño Bridge here in Marikina City.
The equipment uses an ultrasonic sensor device to accurately measure and determine the flood waters in real time. The standalone Water Level Monitoring System is equipped with solar panel and makes use of an ultrasonic sensor to measure the rate of change of water level using the principle similar to radar and sonar. The sensor calculates the time interval between sending the signal and receiving the echo to determine the water level. The information collected is then transmitted to a central server at a predefined interval, via SMS. – from asti.dost.gov.ph
Once the real time data has been captured, it is then showed in graphs.
With this, the Marikina City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office is able to prepare and warn Marikenyos of the impeding danger.
Marikina uses different Alarm levels to inform the public on what to do. Evacuation is carried out when the Marikina River Water level reaches 16 Meters (at Marikina – Sto. Nino Bridge). A siren will also be turned on to signal the Alarm Level.
