Mariquina is a tale about finding oneself, acceptance and forgiveness.
Named after, but so unlike the colorful former Philippine First Lady, Imelda is not fond of shoes. Yet they hold acute but precious memories because all of hers were handmade by her father Romeo, with whom she had a difficult relationship. On the fateful day she is called to the morgue, she starts a search for the perfect pair of shoes for her father’s funeral. Nuggets of a painful past unfold, and character-forming realizations are made, urging Imelda to change her point of view.
The film is directed by Milo Sogueco. Showing this August 2014 as a finalist for the 2014 Cinemalaya Film Festival, New Breed Category.
