Marikina is one of the recipients of a Wind Turbbine project that generates 2KW of electricity.
The wind farm project in Marikina aims to demonstrate and test the viability of using low-velocity-wind for the production of clean energy, and eventually institutionalize a micro wind power system. Since the microwind turbine generator has a maximum capacity of 2 kilowatts, it needs a minimum wind speed of 2.6 meters/second and a maximum speed of 12 meters per second to generate 2 kilowatts of power. – Source
If you notice, the blades look a bit different than ordinary wind turbines or your electric fan blades.
That is because it uses a Loopwing wind turbine blade. Its a bit technical but how I understand it is that its a unique fan blade that is able to move even if the wind is not that fast, If you want to know more about this technology, then here are some readings: Loopwing wind turbine | Philippines – Small-scale wind power
Marikina is only one of three sites for this urban wind energy in the country, along with Guaranfoods in Laguna and DOST in Bicutan.
