The Marikina City Government is preparing for the possible effects of incoming super typhoon “YOLANDA” (international name Haiyan).
According to the Marikina City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC), they are closely monitoring the situation of Typhoon Yolanda. They re-post weather updates on their Facebook page coming from PAGASA (and also re-posted by Abiso Marikenyo, MarikinaPIO, etc.) for information of all Marikenyos. They also said that Marikina Rescue 161 is now on standby.
Sa ngayon po continuous monitoring ang ginagawa namin. Nag post po kami ng weather updates from pagasa through our facebook account. At the same time tuwing umuulan nakamonitor din po ung riverparks office sa rainfall na bumabagsak sa watershed. Ung rescue 161 po on standby na po iyan
After Typhoon Ondoy, I have seen a more prepared Marikina Government. From the City officials down to the Barangay level. Maybe as an improvement, Barangay officials can go around their areas with megaphones and disseminate info about incoming disasters like typhoon. This would encourage residents to be more ready. Maybe those that will not be affected could also be ready with some relief goods that they might give to those who will be affected. They could also call for a meeting in areas that will likely be affected by flooding and re-discuss preparedness, evacuation, and relief procedures (or maybe they are already doing this).
